Adaptable Mixed-Initiative Proof Planning for Educational Interaction
نویسندگان
چکیده
Today, most theorem proving systems are either used by their developers or by a (small) group of particularly trained and skilled users. In order to make theorem proving functionalities useful for a larger clientele we have to ask “What does an envisioned group of users need?” For educational purposes a theorem prover can be used in different scenarios and can serve students with different needs. Therefore, the user interface as well as the choice of functionalities of the underlying prover have to be adapted to the context and the learner. In this paper, we present proof planning as back-engine for interactive proof exercises as well as an interaction console, which is part of our graphical user interface. Based on the proof planning situation, the console offers suggestions for proof steps to the learner. These suggestions can dynamically be adapted, e.g., to the user and to pedagogical criteria using pedagogical knowledge on the creation and presentation of suggestions.

Evaluating Mixed-Initiative Systems: An Experimental Approach
Mixed-Initiative approaches to Planning and Scheduling are being applied in different real world domains. While several recent successful examples of such tools encourage a wider use of this solving paradigm, research in mixed-initiative interaction is still at an early stage and many important issues need to be addressed. In particular, most of the work has been dedicated to designing working ...

James F. Allen, University of Rochester Mixed-initiative interaction is a key aspect of effective human-computer interaction and has great potential to affect work on multiagent systems. The term mixed-initiative interaction is sometimes conflated with human-computer interaction itself, but this is a mistake because almost all models of HCI so far are not mixedinitiative, and mixed-initiative s...
متن کاملAn approach to visual interaction in mixed-initiative planning
Researchers in mixed-initiative problem-solving have generally viewed interaction between the user and the system as a form of dialog, which provides an e ective unifying framework for multimodal systems. For mixed-initiative interaction through a visual medium, however, an approach that exploits our visual perceptual abilities and the bene ts of direct manipulation mechanisms is equally compel...
متن کاملIntegrating Agent-Based Mixed-Initiative Control with an Existing Multi-Agent Planning System
One of the less appreciated obstacles to scaling multi-agent systems is understanding the impact of the role(s) that people will play in those systems. As we try to adapt existing software tools and agent-based applications to play supportive roles in larger multi-agent systems, we must develop strategies for coordinating not only the problem solving behavior of these agent communities, but als...
متن کاملCan Computers Foster Human Users’ Creativity? Theory and Praxis of Mixed- Initiative Co-creativity
This article discusses the impact of artificially intelligent computers to the process of design, play and educational activities. A computational process which has the necessary intelligence and creativity to take a proactive role in such activities can not only support human creativity but also foster it and prompt lateral thinking. The argument is made both from the perspective of human crea...
